Dederang

Dederang is a small rural township nestled in the centre of the high country region in north east Victoria. It sits at the foothills of Mt Bogong on the beautiful Kiewa Valley River.

Despite an area population of just over 200 people, the tight-knit local community has worked hard to establish high quality and well-maintained public facilities, including synthetic tennis courts, a lawn bowls green, a seasonal golf course, a well-equipped children’s playground and the recreational reserve, where on weekends you can watch local football, netball and cricket matches, play social bowls, tennis or golf.

The iconic Dederang pub “the Ranga”, serves delicious meals for lunch and dinner 7 days a week and the Dederang General Store offers everything you could possibly need, including groceries, local produce, newspapers, take away food, espresso coffee, homemade slices and biscuits and fuel, 7 days a week.

For those who enjoy the outdoors, you will be spoiled for choice in Dederang: Bushwalking and hiking through the picturesque Mt Bogong and Mt Feathertop; cycling and mountain bike riding; and fishing, swimming, tubing and barbecuing at the family-friendly Kiewa River banks.

Those who are after a quieter stay will enjoy the beautiful wildlife and high country scenery perfect for photography and painting as well as reading and relaxing.

Last but not least, thousands flock to town for the Dederang Picnic Races, held on the first Saturday in January each year.  It’s a fun-filled day for the family not to be missed. /www.countryracing.com/dederang/
